A Look Inside My New Adult Paranormal

I promised myself a decent bedtime in 2014- which means no more night-writing… maybe. It’s the best time for me to write- it’s quiet… no disturbances… the problem is that I go too far- I don’t even realize it until three in the morning is chiding me. Then I’m a zombie for the rest of the day. I could snag a part in The Walking Dead. I’m sure of it. So I’m off to bed- it’s almost ten here. I’ll get a good seven hours! Hopefully. But I’d like to leave you with a snippet into the story of the newest couple taking up my time- I am enjoying giving them life and creating a lot of fun for them to take part in.

I am writing a New Adult Paranormal Romance. I don’t have a title yet, but it’s on the tip of my tongue. It’s at 50,000 words so far, and it’s still VERY ROUGH! And so is the synopsis! More updates to come…

Quiet, well-mannered, sensitive, and HOT…

But Jacob is also an angel of death. And he’s got a problem — he’s fallen in love with his next victim…

…Her name is Dalia, and he’s flipping for her… Literally. There’s only one way to get closer to this irresistible human. He’s joined the college cheer team, where she’s the captain. But trying to balance his death duties, cheer practice, and wooing the team’s tough leader are nothing compared to what’s coming.

There are few things that Dalia has time for in her busy life, and cheerleading dominates over them all. Guys are definitely not on her calendar. Her first and only serious relationship was a flop. She was done. But then Jacob catches her… Literally. In a cheer stunt gone wrong, he appears seemingly out of nowhere and saves her from busting her head open, and then things change. But there’s no time for yet another typical college guy who will surely break her heart. Or is there? Jacob is uniquely beautiful and hard to resist, but tragedy will soon show Dalia what sets him apart.

She’s awakened a passion that was buried deep inside of him.

He’s not like any other guy she’s met.

Happily ever after? Not so fast.

He may have saved her soul, but payment will still be required.

“Have you ever heard the story of the Greek Goddess Persephone?” Jacob asked.

“Somewhat. She’s the reason we have the seasons, right?”

“Yes. I don’t mean to repeat anything you may already know, but for the sake of explanation…” He grew silent.

“Yes. Yes, please go on,” she encouraged him with a nod of her head.  She wanted to know everything about him. She wanted to understand.

“Hades, god of the Underworld, saw her dancing in a meadow one day. He fell in love with her and stole her, taking her to the Underworld as his bride. That’s when I first discovered her.”

Dalia looked down at her hands and began picking at her fingernails. She had no right to feel even a twinge of jealousy.

“Is it okay for me to continue?” He asked unsure, reaching out and taking one of her hands, as if he could feel her discomfort.

“Yes, please,” she peered up at him and gave a half smile.

“To say she was devastated would be a sick understatement. She was broken.” He sighed. “I had to help her. I promised her I would find a way to return her to her mother, Demeter. But as time wore on, she was becoming weak, refusing anything to eat or drink in defiance. As she grew faint, crying out from hunger pangs, I fed her. I put six tiny pomegranate seeds onto her tongue.”

He stared far off, squeezing Dalia’s hand.

“Jacob?” She pulled him closer to her. “Are you okay? What is it?”

“I’m the reason.” He whispered, never looking away from the memory, bewilderment on his face. “She ate the seeds… When I finally got her to her mother, she was cursed. And for the six seeds she ate, she was required to stay for six months out of a calendar year in the Underworld with Hades. And I had only wanted to help her.”

Dalia took his face in her hands and directed him to meet her gaze. “There’s nothing wrong with wanting to help someone. You have a good heart.”

“That’s just it, Dalia. I don’t have a heart. I’m a demon. That’s all I will ever be.”

“Not to me.” She spoke firmly. “You’re an angel. You’re my angel.”

I am an angel of death,” he answered, resolute. “It’s a punishment granted on my legion for what I did. I interfered. Banished from the Underworld, where else was a demon to go, but to be destroyed,” he ran a hand over his head. “That is until Persephone pleaded for my life and that of my legion, and we were banished to earth, put in the service of her mother Demeter, the presider over the cycle of life and death. At first, I wished Persephone would have let me be destroyed. Having death would have been much better than experiencing it day after day, taking life from some of the most unwilling of humans. I pondered day and night on how to destroy myself, considering what laws I could break to once again disqualify myself from their favor.

“Whose favor?”

“The Olympians. Those I offended. Zeus, Demeter… Hades.”

Dalia sat silently, pondering every word that he spoke.

This was real.

It had to be.

“Do you really want to talk or are you just using this as an excuse to get me to go on a date with you?”

“I do have some fairly important things to discuss with you, but if you’d like, we can save it for another day and make this a date,” he answers, while not taking his eyes from the road.

“Fine, talk first. If you’re lucky, I might give you my number.” I laugh.

“I don’t need your number,” he says quietly.

I’m confused. He didn’t say want. He said need.

He glances my way. “Get that frown off your face. Just because I don’t need your number, doesn’t mean I don’t want it.” He reaches over and pats my hand before going back to the gear shifter.

His touch was warm and left a tingling sensation on my skin. For all of two seconds I felt whole again and now I feel like I’m aching. I pinch my thigh through my jeans.

What kind of girly little crush do I have?

“Why wouldn’t you need my number?” I ask, trying to shake off the strange ache.

“I’ll explain that when we get to the lake. I think I’m going to start this conversation where you can’t run away from me.”

“I can’t run anywhere now,” I point out.

He sighs. “This is going to be difficult for me to tell you, like it was difficult for you to tell Skeeter and me yesterday.” He glances my way and then looks back to the road. “It has several consequences and outcomes. In fact, I had to travel to get permission to tell you to begin with.” He turns the radio on, leaving me with my thoughts.

Now I’m starting to worry on top of being nervous as hell.

Why do I need to be on a boat in the middle of a large lake before he sheds any light on this? Who did he need permission from and why did he need it?

God, I hope he’s not a serial killer.

Maybe his mom was abducted by aliens or his dad kidnapped some king’s son. Maybe I should’ve insisted we stay closer to home, closer to Henry. Maybe he…

I’m going to give myself a migraine by the time we get to the damn lake! Then he’ll have to take me back home, and I’ll never find out what’s going on in his head.

I glare over at Seth, and he’s chuckling. I turn down the radio and ask him what’s so funny.

“Just a random thought, that’s all.” He turns the radio back up.

Fine then, no talking.

I watch him as he drives. Seeing the veins in his arm pop out as he turns the wheel and the muscles ripple when he shifts a gear, I wonder what those arms would feel like wrapped around… Stop it!

Every damn time I’m around him, I think like a pervert! I inwardly growl and press my head back onto the headrest. I’ll just look out the window then.

Trees are in no way erotic, or sensual, or perverted.

Focusing on the trees is easy, but I can still smell him. His amazing smelling cologne mixed with his clean, spicy scent assaults my nose and begs me to lean in close. This car ride is taking forever.

The longer it takes, the more nervous I get. I shift in my seat, cross and uncross my legs, and bite my lip as I stare at endless trees.

‘The way she bites her lip makes me want to pull the car over and…

I gasp, and choke on my breath or saliva.

What was that?!

Who was that?
